What is Hogla (Seagrass)
HOGLA is a type of Biodegradable and Eco-friendly natural grass material from which various
handicraft
products are made. In our country this natural grass is typically named "HOGLA LEAF"
and
botanical name "CYPERUS MANACENSYS".
A large number of Hogla leaf trees are grown in Bangladesh. This grass is found in Agailjhara,
Gournadi,
Hijla, Mehendiganj, Muladi and Bakerganj upazilas of this country.
Hogla rope is made from hogla leaves. From which various types of baskets, vases, pots,
placemats etc
can be made. Besides, different types of products are made from Hogla leaves. Hogla products are
made
in two ways i.e. machine stitched and handmade. Due to the huge demand of these products abroad
especially in European countries, it is possible to earn a lot of foreign exchange from them. As
a result, it
is also possible to eliminate the unemployment of the people of this country by producing this
product.
